Hi all,
Just thought I would drop a line to one and all. My name is Steve Kerby, and I have a 1971 XJ6 4.2 in factory black (as Keith tells me!) with later Kent alloys, which although are not original, they came with the car and I think really suit it.
The car is generally in good nick although it has two areas which rather spoil it. The ever-present rust around the offside headlamp and, strangely, a very rusty panel beneath the rear bumper, so anyone coming from behind thinks it is a bit of an old banger. Keith has given me a very reasonable quote to to do both areas so I am waiting for my circumstances to improve so that I can get these nasty areas made good. I am also hoping to get Keith to convert my car to a manual gearbox, as I had one before but it was stolen.
I took the Jag to the South of France last summer and it went like a train, powering along those French D roads (no motorways at all) without missing a beat in 2 000 miles. I even got 21mpg, which I thought was pretty good as I was usually at around 85-90mph. I'm hoping to improve on that with a manual gearbox, and then further with an LPG conversion. Not sure if Keith does that, but will ask him.
I have only recently become aquainted with Keith, as my regular guy has just retired. It is very reassuring speaking to Keith, as he seems to have all the knowledge, but is about 35 years younger than my previous man. It's nice to know that the knowledge is not dying with the cars, as they become rarer.
So, everyone, cultivate your relationship with Keith, as good older Jag specialistes are rarer than, well, rarer than manual gearbox XJ6 Series 1s!
Steve
