Mr Taylors 1973 Rover 2000 SC P6 |
Having passed by and seen our own S1 Daimler on a daily basis, Mr. Taylor approached us to carry out a full restoration of his P6.
The car is a low mileage, low owner example. It is all original with plenty of history.
The car arrived with us in very presentable order.
The engine bay as arrived.
We tried to use the original panels to keep a good fit. Both front wings were repaired.
All 4 doors required minor repair as seen here.
Structually the car was very solid. There was a reasonable amount of surface rust, but little rot. Here, the rear of the boot floor required a repair.
The rear of the sills required repair on each side. not pictured, the front of the sills required similar small repairs.
With engine removed for a freshen up, the engine bay was stripped.
After a coat of etch, two coats of filler primer, the engine bay was repainted in factory finish satin black.
Front and rear suspension was removed and rebuilt. The underside of the entire vehicle was stripped and resealed.
All paintwork is contracted out to a local firm -LWA Bodyshop.
The quality of Dave Barns paintwork is superb.
Reassembly is a slow process. All panels are removed, waxed, and refitted from the back forward.
All trim is cleaned, polished, and waxed prior to refitting to the car. All new seals and rubbers are used along the way.
The engine and gearbox ran perfectly. With low, recorded miles - the plan was to inspect and clean.
The water ways were not pretty, but cleaned up to show a nice block. No wear was evident on the cam lobes, chains or guides. The bores appear perfect.
With the engine/gearbox detailed and fitted....
.....progress is steady.....and a car is begining to appear!
Beautifully handcrafted (but very pricey), Stainless exhaust system - fit and forget!
The car is now, at last - running!
With genuine Minilite alloys fitted - off for MOT.
A pass first time!
